A small room with everything that matters in it

Suite 3 is one floor of a low building on Fort Street: wood underfoot, two rack bays, a strip for the sled, and a window that takes the afternoon light. The roster is forty because this room was built for a handful of people at a time.

The space

Open training floor with racks and machines
The floor looking toward the rack line. Four people is the most we book at once.

The studio is about 1,900 square feet. The wood floor runs from the window on Fort Street back to the two rack bays. A short mat zone sits to one side for intakes and for the last six minutes of a session, when we write the journal. There is no music stacked on music, and there is no row of unused machines. You will hear the bar settle and, some mornings, the 7:00 bus on Fort.

Because the room is small, the diary is the real architecture. Two platforms and one mat zone means four people is the working maximum. That is why the roster stops at forty and why a new slot usually takes one to three weeks. If you prefer the room nearly empty, the stretch between 13:00 and 15:00 is the quietest part of the weekday.

We chose kit that earns its space: enough plates for two people to work heavy at once, bells for carries, and a sled that can be loaded without sending anyone into the hallway. If a lift needs a special bar we do not own, we write a substitute rather than send you across town.

Getting here

Buses run along Fort Street through the day; the stop is a short walk from the door. Street parking sits on Fort and in the lane behind the building. A bike rack is bolted at the back door — bring a lock. If you drive on a Saturday, the neighbourhood is quieter and the curb spaces last longer than they do on a weekday lunch.

The entrance has a single step of about 9 cm. There is no lift. The washroom is on the same floor as the studio. We are honest about this because a 9 cm threshold is still a threshold: if a wheelchair or a walker is part of your week, write to us before you book and we will tell you plainly whether the visit will work. Once you are inside, the floor is level and the platforms have space to step around a bar.

Your first visit

People reviewing papers at a table during an intake
Part of the intake happens at the desk, with the history and the three priorities written down before you leave.

Arrive five minutes early. Indoor shoes, a water bottle, a towel, and any letter from a physiotherapist are enough. We will ask you to fill a short health screen — the same facts we need to coach safely, kept in the paper journal under lock. Then we talk, then we move: a hinge, a squat pattern, a press. The last twenty minutes are for the one-page brief. You should be out within the ninety minutes, with a date for the next session if a slot is open.

Wear clothes you can squat and hinge in. If a joint is already loud that morning, say so before we load anything. There is no group in the room during an intake; the hour is yours. Payment for the $140 CAD assessment can be e-transfer before you arrive or card or debit at the desk.

Fort Street is a working stretch of Victoria: buses, bikes, and people walking between offices and the harbour. There is a coffee shop across the road if you arrive early and want to sit down before the intake. Saturday mornings the curb is kinder and the studio itself is reserved for re-tests, so the neighbourhood feels slower. If you come by bike, the rack at the back door is the one we mean; the front rail is for visitors to the other suites.

We opened in 2026 in this suite because the room already had the window and the floor, and because forty clients is a number this neighbourhood can hold without turning the lane into a gym car park. If you get lost, the suite number is on the door: 3. The phone on the topline will reach the desk during open hours.
